Neurology
Healthy is easy on my mind. Sometimes a headache is a headache. But frequent headaches and extreme discomfort may be clues of something more serious. Let's figure it out together.
About
Neurology is a subspecialty of Internal Medicine which specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders affecting the nervous system (brain, spinal cord, and nerves). Chronic pain, especially headache, many muscle disorders, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, seizures, and stroke are all disorders which the neurologist evaluates and treats.
Services
Neurological Testing
Electroencephalogram (EEG)
In this test the brain waves are recorded on paper. The physician uses the tracing to evaluate various conditions such as seizures, and to monitor the patient’s response to medication.
Electromyography (EMG)
This test is used to evaluate the junction between the nerve ending and the muscle. It is helpful in the diagnosis of a pinched nerve from a herniated disk and disorders such as myasthenia gravis and ALS.
Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) Tests
A nerve conduction velocity test allows the physician to evaluate a peripheral nerve’s ability to conduct an impulse. It is especially helpful in diagnosing carpal tunnel syndrome and diabetic neuropathy.
Autonomic Nervous System Tests
The study of the parasympathetic and sympathetic testing of the nerves.
