Internal Medicine - a broad discipline encompassing primary patient
care, preventative medicine, and care of seriously ill patients in the
hospital setting. Internal Medicine is one of the four major medical
specialty fields, along with surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and
pediatrics. The outstanding characteristic of an internist is his
thoroughness in patient care. In addition, he is trained in many of the
newly developed technical skills and procedures designed to better
diagnose and treat disease.
